The range of multimedia-capable devices is
constantly growing. Advances in processing power, bandwidth and
display technologies have led to an increase of image resolution.
At the same time multimedia content is reaching out ubiquitously
to mobile devices limited in memory, display resolution and
bandwidth. This creates challenges for content adaptation,
especially for video content.
This thesis prototypes a client/server SVC video
streaming solution that utilizes SpoVNet's application layer
multicast service. The process of streaming in general involves
packetizing video data into datagrams on the server side, and
dealing with packet losses and changes in packet order on the
client side. In particular this thesis focusses on packetization,
and it concentrates on streaming of video images. There is no
scalable audio format yet, and audio is usually streamed
separately from video.
This paper is structured as follows: Following this
introduction, in Chapter 2 a new RTP payload format for SVC is
presented. Next, in Chapter 3 exemplary results are provided.
Finally, the thesis concludes in Chapter 4. |
