Dirk Farin studied computer science and electrical
engineering at the University of Stuttgart. From May 1999 to May
2001, he worked at the department for circuitry and simulation at
the University Mannheim. In May 2001, he moved to the department
of computer science and mathematics, where he is working on new
algorithms for video compression, object segmentation, and
video-content analysis.
He received a best-paper award at the Symposium on
Information Theory 2003 for his work on MPEG-4 Multi-sprite
generation and a best paper award for perceptually optimized
spatial segmentation in 2001.
