International Workshop on Human Control of Ubiquitous Systems (HUCUBIS 2008)
Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
July 25th 2008
In conjunction with
MobiQuitous
A major challenge in adaptive ubiquitous systems is to allow users to customize and control the system behavior
according to their needs. As an example, if a system fails or multiple users want to achieve conflicting goals, the
system has to stay controllable by its users. At the same time, the system must ensure that its users are not
distracted.
The goal of this workshop is to discuss how to keep users in the control loop of ubiquitous systems
while realizing distraction-free system operation. To do so, we will bring together researchers from the areas of
human computer interaction, adaptive systems, and ubiquitous computing to provide and discuss novel ideas and
techniques for the control of ubiquitous systems. Topics include appropriate middleware and service platforms,
novel multimedia interfaces (e.g. virtual environments or gesture recognition), as well as user studies and
evaluations of user controlled ubiquitous systems.
